Another little experiment in AfterEffects, still messing around with Trapcode’s particular plugin but this time also using some of the motion tracking tools. I was pretty pleased with the results (a bit like the old ipod commercials)! You can find out how to do similar things on the very excellent videocopilot website

Motion tracking in After Effects
Thursday, February 19th, 2009Visual Bookmarking with WeHeartIt
Monday, February 9th, 2009After a bit of research I’ve decided to go with www.weheartit.com for some visual bookmarking fun (getting an invite on fffound was too difficult!) it seems to be a pretty good service for finding and savings cool images and video, although it does seem to be going down a bit too often (though I’m hoping that’s just teething troubles). Anyway you can view my profile here, if you join up please add me as a contact so we can share the excitement! Here some of the goodies I’ve found recently:

Lazy Oaf
Tuesday, December 9th, 2008The KIN exhibition (see previous post) was pretty cool yesterday, round the corner was quite a cool little shop called Lazy Oaf, I’ve got no idea how new or big this is but thought it had some really nice stuff - if the Mr.T Towel isn’t genius I don’t know what is?!

James Joyce
Sunday, November 23rd, 2008And nowww … the end is nearrrr …
Wednesday, November 19th, 2008Wicked collection of End of film screens on Flickr … found on ComputerLove

Playful Type
Tuesday, November 18th, 2008Future of Mobile wasn’t amazing yesterday - a couple of nice talks but seemed to be either a lot of ranting about what doesn’t work with mobile or just very techie presentations. Anyway was in covent garden in the evening so ended up popping into the Magma bookstore - got quite a few nice shiny new books, the favourite of which was Playful Type edited by R. Klanten and H. Hellige

Gesture based interaction
Friday, November 7th, 2008YESSSSS! This is frickin AWESOME!!
fffound!
Friday, October 31st, 2008This week I’ve discovered and really enjoyed Fffound! - it’s kind of like a ‘del.icio.us’ for images - also has really good related links so you can get lost in a whole load of good pictures for a long time. One problem is that it’s invite only to join, so if you’re a member and could add me I would be SUPER grateful!
Here’s a couple of good ‘uns I discovered today …

After Effects comp: STORIES
Friday, October 24th, 2008So on the theme of ’stories’ I was thinking about intro’s and trailer’s of films where a story is often condensed down to a short period of time. So decided to go for a bit of a ‘mashup’ re-cut trailer of an existing film - The Empire Strikes Back! (You might notice the influence from the intro to ‘Snatch’)
Anyway you can check out my film here. Also as the winner for this week I get to choose the theme for next fortnight: SCARY!
One Dot Zero
Wednesday, October 22nd, 2008One of my favourite events in London (though I feel I’ve missed it the last couple of years) is One Dot Zero. It’s basically a big motion graphics festival which this year is taking place at the BFI between the 14th and 16th of November. I’m a bit gutted as I’m away that weekend, but I would definitely recommend seeing it if you have an interest in these type of things - particularly try and see the Wow+Flutter and J-Star showings also the AV Departures event along with This Happened are sure to be excellent!

instant vintage
Wednesday, October 15th, 2008smashing magazine has put together a nice collection of photoshop tutorials using colorising methods, filters and blend modes for instant vintage and retro goodness!

After Effects comp: SOUP
Wednesday, October 8th, 2008I have to confess I got a bit lazy with this fortnights after effects battle, so here’s my last minute entry to the theme ‘Soup’ - Nick Beese won in the end and has chosen the theme ‘Story’ for night fortnight …
Kate Moross
Wednesday, October 1st, 2008Wow! Absolutely love Kate Moross’s work, how someone can be 22 and have so much great work AND run a record label is beyond me! Anyway check out her site, also an interesting interview with her on the Young Tate site …

Rock-n-Rolla title sequence
Tuesday, September 30th, 2008Haven’t seen this film yet (seems like it would be more a wait-till-video type thing) but I thought the intro title sequence by Danny Yount was pretty cool …
Found on Motionographer
genre badges
Sunday, September 28th, 2008thought this was quite a nice bit of visual design - the genre placeholder badges in the new version of iTunes … also very impressed with the ‘genius’ playlist maker thing …
After Effects comp: POWER
Friday, September 26th, 2008In the visual design department at the BBC we’re having a little on-going competition to improve our After Effects skills. The challenge is to produce a 5-10 second film on a certain theme, then do a show-and-tell to how you made it etc …
So the theme this week is ‘Power’, here’s my entry which was a modified tutorial from Video Copilot (which is a really great resource for learning motion graphic software by the way). Also well done to Andy Bird who won and now chooses the theme for two weeks time, which is gonna be … ’soup’!
e-ink
Tuesday, September 23rd, 2008This is kinda cool, Esquire magazine celebrates it’s 75th anniversary with a limited-edition cover using “e-ink”, check out the video of it in action:

Serge Seidlitz
Monday, September 22nd, 2008Over the last year or so I’ve developed a real love of hand-written typography - I’ve think Serge Seidlitz is the MASTER when it comes to such things! (love the website too!)

Designersblock 2008
Thursday, September 18th, 2008Today the Designersblock exhibition starts in Covent Garden “Sixty UK and international designers present new works, spread over more than 10,000 square feet at Number One The Piazza” … it’s five quid to get in and is on till Sunday, I’m gonna try and head down this weekend: www.designersblock.org.uk
Incidentally I think it’s funny how these sorts of things often seem to use not-particularly-nice design work in it’s branding and promoting?!

Cheap tee’s
Friday, September 5th, 2008Another Threadless sale is on, you can’t go wrong for £6 ($12) a tee really? Here’s some of the ones I’ve gone for:
