Wow, this looks incredible - laser bridge installation over Blackfriars bridge! Made by Keith Bowler, it will be up over the next few weeks. More info on the Creative Review blog

Rock-n-Rolla title sequence
Haven’t seen this film yet (seems like it would be more a wait-till-video type thing) but I thought the intro title sequence by Danny Yount was pretty cool …

new version of iPlayer on the iPhone …
last week a new version of the mobile version of iplayer for the iphone and nokia n95 was released. the big update this time is that on-demand radio is now included … anyway it’s looking and working really smoothly now and is a massive improvement on the initial version launched a few months ago. more info on the bbc internet blog

genre badges
thought this was quite a nice bit of visual design - the genre placeholder badges in the new version of iTunes … also very impressed with the ‘genius’ playlist maker thing …
No commentsAfter Effects comp: POWER
In the visual design department at the BBC we’re having a little on-going competition to improve our After Effects skills. The challenge is to produce a 5-10 second film on a certain theme, then do a show-and-tell to how you made it etc …
So the theme this week is ‘Power’, here’s my entry which was a modified tutorial from Video Copilot (which is a really great resource for learning motion graphic software by the way). Also well done to Andy Bird who won and now chooses the theme for two weeks time, which is gonna be … ’soup’!

As someone who has had several crashes cycling through London (though sometimes it’s just been down to stupidity) something like this interests me greatly!:

I may have to eat my words about ol’ BoJo if this comes to pass:
BBC News: Mayor sees London as ‘wi-fi city’
No commentse-ink
This is kinda cool, Esquire magazine celebrates it’s 75th anniversary with a limited-edition cover using “e-ink”, check out the video of it in action:

Serge Seidlitz
Over the last year or so I’ve developed a real love of hand-written typography - I’ve think Serge Seidlitz is the MASTER when it comes to such things! (love the website too!)

No commentsJames Copeman, Super8 and Noah and the Whale
Recently I’ve really been enjoying Noah and the Whale, it’s some great music but I particularly love the music video’s directed by James Copeman. They’ve all been shot really beautifully (in super 8 I think - really need to get me one of those cameras!) … ‘5 Years Time‘ (below) is my favourite but also check out ‘Shape of my Heart‘ and ‘2 Bodies 1 Heart‘ as well.

Today the Designersblock exhibition starts in Covent Garden “Sixty UK and international designers present new works, spread over more than 10,000 square feet at Number One The Piazza” … it’s five quid to get in and is on till Sunday, I’m gonna try and head down this weekend: www.designersblock.org.uk
Incidentally I think it’s funny how these sorts of things often seem to use not-particularly-nice design work in it’s branding and promoting?!

Not much on the internet today?
Though I did enjoy the beginning bit of Adam & Joe’s podcast this week, all about the BBC Core Values …
No commentsInspiring
Have been watching some of Obama’s speeches on his youTube channel. Is this guy possibly one of the most inspiring politicians to be seen in a long time? This has got to be a walk-over right? …

Cheap tee’s
Another Threadless sale is on, you can’t go wrong for £6 ($12) a tee really? Here’s some of the ones I’ve gone for:

Newww York, New York! It’s a helluva town …
Actually it was really good, at some point if it was possible to get a work visa I’d definitely like to live over there … here’s some photos on Flickr
