iPlayer 2 site now live!
So for the last 6 months I’ve been working on the new iPlayer site which went live yesterday evening! It’s currently in beta and will run alongside the current site until all the bugs are ironed out. I’m really pleased with the final result though, the development team have done a fantastic job building this in quite a short period of time to a really high standard. Check it out!: www.bbc.co.uk/iplayerbeta
No commentsRadiohead and Element Labs
Really enjoyed the Radiohead gig last night in Victoria park, east London. They played most of the stuff from the new album (particularly enjoyed ‘Weird Fishes’ and ‘House of Cards’) plus a few tunes from the olden days (the gig finished on ‘Paranoid Android’ which was immense!)
However I also really enjoyed the lighting design supplied by Element Labs (who also did the setup for the Daft Punk tour last year and Coldplay’s ‘Speed of Sound’ video), it consisted of a massive 3D curtain of 7 and 9 meter long light strips which just made for an amazing effect!

Sneak peak at the new iPlayer website
Here’s a sneak peak of the new iPlayer website that will be launching soon - the big difference from the last site is that radio is featured alongside tv making it a one-stop shop to access all of BBC’s on-demand content. There’s a big change in the audio playback which will now mostly be high quality stereo in flash (with the aim of gradually getting rid of all the crappola windows and real playback) and the TV playback size has increased to 640px wide.
Other features have been added such as the ‘Last Played’ function which remembers what you’ve watched or listened to and allows you to resume playing from where you’ve left off. Also a full schedule and list view to make it easier to find what you’re looking for.
I’ll write more on this at the launch, in the meantime you can find out more on the BBC Internet Blog or view the promotional video on the Media Guardian website.

Cool stuff of the day
A couple of cool little bits and bobs in my RSS reader today - Knight Rider GPS, Simpsons Maps for Quake lll and some wicked little viral ads by Levi’s (pictured below)
No commentsWeezer’s ‘best of YouTube’ video
Really like the new video from Weezer for their track “Pork and Beans” which basically brings together some of the all-stars from YouTube such as the Diet Coke + Mentos Experiment, the Evolution of Dance and Miss South Carolina … this band sure do make some great videos!
No comments200 million friends and counting

Interesting interview with Tom Anderson the founder of Myspace in today’s Guardian:
“… even having 200 million friends and Rupert Murdoch as a boss won’t help when your website is no longer flavour of the month”
No commentsOH WOW!
An absolutely outstanding fan-vid by James Houston from Glasgow School of Art, made for the Radiohead ‘In Rainbows’ remix contest using a wicked selection of old TVs, scanners, and oscilloscopes this is sooooooo genius (also strangely emotional?!)
Big Ideas (don’t get any) from James Houston on Vimeo.
No commentsColdplay at the BBC
I have to say I’m not actually that big a fan of Coldplay - however they were doing a televised gig outside Television Centre last night, so decided to see how close I could get using my staff pass!
In the end I managed to get a pretty good view as it was such a small venue, the gig was pretty good too + I got quite excited by the fact that JayZ was standing about 10m away in the celebrity enclosure! Anyway if you missed it last night on BBC Two it’s available to watch now on iPlayer.

Final year shows
It’s that time of the year again for art college students to be showing cool stuff around London - I went down to the Central Saint Martins post graduate show today down by trafalgar square, some really great stuff going on in communication design, digital media, illustration and typography. I particularly liked the work by Rob Porter and Iria Lopez Gonzalez (pictured below)

Some brilliant stuff by Robert Corish too!:

I think the next big exhibit on is the
Royal College of Art show part 2 in a couple of weeks - looking forward to it!
No commentsDown and Out Around Smithfield Meat Market!
On Saturday I was involved in a cycling event called the Smithfield Nocturne. The idea for the day was to have all types of cycling events round Smithfield Meat Market – the race I was involved in was the ‘folding bike race’ in which everyone gets dressed up in work wear then runs to their collapsed bike on the start line, unfolds it then does 4 laps round the market.
Unfortunately although I had a great start and was 2nd out of 30 cycling off the start line, I ended up going too fast down the hill and ended up crashing on the first corner on the first lap!
So it ended up being a very short race, but I managed to find myself in a few photos from other people’s flickr accounts which was pretty cool (I’m the top result under the flickr search “smithfield crash”!)
